Description
-
Seated in dyanasana on a double lotus base with hands in dhyanamudra, wearing simple robes, this Buddha's face is well cast in a meditative expression flanked by large ears beneath the tight whorls of hair surmounted by a tall ushnisha, with traces of gilt lacquer.
This bronze measures 30cm H x 20cm W x 14cm D. It weighs 7 lbs, 5.3 oz.
Despite the Xuande reign mark, this Buddha has full, yet somewhat squared facial features, a robust body sitting upon a double lotus base, all of which is indicative of a fifteenth century date.
Provenance
The personal private collection of Massachusetts auctioneer, Richard DiFillipo. Sold at R.A. DiFillipo Auctions on January 14, 2020, lot 82.
